Farmers Occupy!   The above video is of a very eloquent and heartfelt speech by a seed farmer from Maine.  He came for the farmer’s march and It was his first time in NYC. 


America is one of the fattest country in the world. Our food policy subsidizes crops that make us unhealthy. 63% of subsidies go to meat and dairy; 20% go to grains mostly used to feed livestock; 15% go to sugar, starch, oil and alcohol.  Go to any supermarket in any poor neighborhood and you will see the prevalence of processed foods made from cheap GMO ingredients. We need to redistribute food subsidies to make healthy food produced by ecologically responsible small to medium sized farms affordable to the poor.  Currently, only 1% of food subsidies go to fruits and vegetables.  That’s a problem.
