Pink Slime Sushi aka the California Roll - I am still taken aback when somebody asks us to make them a California Roll. Please allow me to explain the reason I wouldn’t even feed your dog a California Roll. They represent everything that is bad about the Americanization of traditional foods. The “crab” in the California Roll is actually faux crab made up of fishes of mysterious origin and species which are processed with sugar, flour, egg and dye to look like king crab. The most popular sushi roll in America is hardly what we could call food at all; it could easily have been invented by McDonald’s. The red and white crab sticks being pooped out of machines in factories is not significantly different in recipe than the pink slime that is used to create the enormously popular chicken mcnugget. In other good news, I just saw that Taco Bell just came out with a taco made out of a Frito chip shell! See you there!
